On March 21, 2002, President George W. Bush issued a proclamation
designating the years 2002 through 2011 as the National Bone and
Joint Decade. This proclamation was the culmination of several years
of hard work and persistence by many individuals. The National Bone
and Joint Decade is part of a global initiative to improve the quality
of life for people with musculoskeletal conditions and to advance
the understanding and treatment of these conditions through research,
