Report of the 2000 Japanese American Traveling Fellows

Introduction
In 1992, Daiji Kashiwagi, MD, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery
at Kobe University in Japan, established the Japanese American Traveling
Fellowship in association with the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons. This Fellowship initially was funded by the Kashiwagi/Sumihara
Foundation, and it subsequently was supported by the Kashiwagi/Suzuki
Foundation. Every two years, four American Fellows have been selected
to tour Japan. The Japanese American Traveling Fellowship is now supported
by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association. The 2000 Japanese American
Traveling Fellows were selected by four members of the American Academy
of Orthopaedic Surgeons: John P. Dormans, MD; Stuart A. Green, MD;
William L. Healy, MD; and William J. Kane, MD. Each selector individually
rated the applicants on a standard scale, the ratings were combined,
and the four highest-rated applicants were selected as Fellows.

specialties of orthopaedic surgery and different sections of the
