Knowledge is a gift, but wisdom is required to convey it clearly. The editors of this book on injuries related to America's favorite pastime have done this quite well. While it is aimed at those who treat baseball players, including physicians, therapists, and trainers, the book also will be a useful reference source for residents and students.
The text is divided into six sections. In the section on diagnosis and treatment, which accounts for more than half of the book, a number of experienced authors describe injuries of the shoulder, elbow, hand, spine, hip, knee, ankle, and foot as well as injuries in children.
The section on injuries of the upper extremity is especially comprehensive. The chapter on functional biomechanics of the shoulder is well done, and appropriate emphasis is placed on the importance of the scapulothoracic articulation as well as the glenohumeral joint.
