Philip H. Davis, M.D., died at his home in Palm Coast, Florida, on November 28, 1996. He was seventy years old. He will be remembered as a pioneer in microsurgery who began the process of educating orthopaedists in the use of this new technology.

Philip Davis was born on August 24, 1926, in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania. He served as a corpsman in the United States Navy during World War II. He then entered the University of Vermont in Burlington, where he received a Bachelor's degree in 1950 and an M.D. degree in 1953. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery and a fellowship in hand surgery at Northwestern University in Chicago in 1958.
