According to the first line of the preface, this is "an up-to-date overview of orthopaedics written expressly for the medical student." As a compilation of chapters from the members of the Orthopaedic Department at Georgetown University Medical Center, it represents the various subspecialties for each topic. It begins with a chapter on bone development and metabolism, which serves as a transition from the basic sciences to clinical orthopaedics.
