COLOR ATLAS AND TEXT OF OSTEOTOMY OF THE HIP. Edited by Malcolm F. Macnicol. London, Mosby-Wolfe, 1996. $150.00, 167 pp.

Any work on osteotomy of the hip with a glowing foreword by Robert Salter deserves careful consideration. This is indeed a beautifully illustrated tour of the methods used by a group of international experts to carry out joint-preserving operations on the proximal part of the femur and the acetabulum. The strength of the book lies in the clarity of the step-by-step intraoperative photographs to guide the surgeon. Most of the fifteen chapters also have excellent line drawings for further orientation.

Certain portions of the book deserve particular mention. In the preface, Macnicol's comment that "we cannot allow this form of surgery to become a lost art form" is particularly poignant. The introductory section on the clinical . . . [Full Text of this Article]
