TO THE EDITOR:
I appreciate the thoughtful comments on orthopaedic surgery, managed care, and the future of orthopaedic health care made by Dr. Dick in "Prometheus and Zeus: the Future of Orthopaedic Health Care" (77-A: 1295-1300, Sept. 1995). This address was also summarized in The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Bulletin1. Dr. Dick demonstrated a keen understanding of the problems that we confront as a group of surgical subspecialists and as individual orthopaedic surgeons.
Dr. Dick discussed Greek mythology and compared the ancient struggle between the Titans and the Olympians to the twentieth-century struggle between orthopaedic surgeons and the forces of managed care. He suggested that orthopaedic surgeons should accept managed care and that we should make the best of the changes that managed care will impose on our profession.
