I read with interest "Avascular Necrosis of the Capital Femoral Epiphysis after Intramedullary Nailing for a Fracture of the Femoral Shaft. A Case Report" (77-A: 1092-1094, July 1995), by Astion et al. If the authors' explanation for this complication were true, then I would have expected this complication to have been described previously, in view of the large number of intramedullary nails that have been inserted over many years.
