In the article "Oblique Osteotomy for the Correction of Tibial Malunion" (77-A: 240246, Feb. 1995), Sanders et al. described an oblique osteotomy in the plane of deformity to correct a tibial malunion by swiveling the two surfaces of the osteotomy on each other. A preoperative examination for rotational deformity was described, but the final rotation or whether the rotational deformities that had been present preoperatively were corrected was not reported. More importantly, they did not describe the effect on axial rotation of angular correction with an oblique osteotomy.
When the surfaces of an oblique osteotomy are rotated on each other, changes in both angulation and rotation are produced. The relative degree of each depends on how steep the osteotomy . . . [Full Text of this Article]
