IRVIN BALENSWEIG B.S., M.D.1

1 Clinical Instructor, Orthopaedic Surgery, Cornell Univ. Med. College; Asst. Surgeon, Hosp. for Ruptured and Crippled, Out-Patient Dept.; Assistant Visiting Surgeon, City Hospital, New York City.

The outstanding points of interest elicited from both the literature and cases herein reported are: The presence of the lesion in boys between the ages of ten and twenty; the diagnostic sign, that of loss of flexion and the rapidity of cure as a result of conservative therapy.

Cases No. 1 and 2 were presented before the Alumni Association of the Hospital for Ruptured and Crippled on November 26, 1923.

The author wishes to acknowledge his indebtedness to those who have assisted him in the collection of the cases herein presented.
