Acute rupture of the peroneal retinaculum

The anatomy of the superior peroneal retinaculum at the ankle includes a
sheath somewhat distinct from a fibrous lip extending from the periosteum
of the fibula at the lateral aspect of the lip of the groove. In
seventy-three cases of injury to the retinaculum, three grades of injury
were recognized. Surgical repair was quite successful except in three
cases.
