WALTER A. L. THOMPSON M.D.1, ANTHONY G. GRISTINA M.D.1, and WILLIAM A. HEALY JR. M.D.1

1 From the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, New York University School of Medicine, New York City

A technique of bilateral posterolateral fusion of the lumbosacral spine combined with a classic Hibbs spine fusion is described, as performed on 150 patients. This method provided a high incidence (95 per cent) of successful fusion with low morbidity, and good or fair results in 90 per cent of patients.
