Low-Velocity Gunshot Wounds Involving the Knee Joint: Surgical Management

Our experience with seven operative cases involving low-velocity gunshot wounds to the knee suggests that surgical exploration and débridernent through appropriate incisions are necessary when a bullet or bullet fragment is retained or osteochondral fragments exist within the synovial compartments, or when the joint has been traversed by a missile, even when such fragments cannot be demonstrated roentgenographically.
