Thirteen cases of osteomyelitis of the calcaneus were all cured by antibiotics with or without curettage. All but two of these were acute, and the majority were caused by Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase positive. In contrast, seven cases in the talus were more often subacute and were usually caused by Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase negative. They most often occurred in boys under the age of four and were also cured by antibiotics and curettage.
