Disruption of the Proximal Carpal Arch of the Hand

GEORGE A. PRIMIANO M.D.1 and THOMAS C. REEF M.D.1

1 From the Division of Hand Surgery, Department of Orthopaedics, Akron City Hospital, Akron

Four patients with crush injuries to the hand and wrist demonstrated rotational deformities of the fingers which proved to be secondary to disruption of the proximal transverse arch in the wrist. These rotational deformities were corrected immediately with surgical restoration of the proximal arch. Decompression of the carpal tunnel was necessary in all patients.
