Twelve patients, after sustaining severe contusing injuries of the hand, had persistent, disabling intermetacarpal pain when making a fist or performing activities involving function of the intrinsic muscles. Release of adhesions between the lumbrical and interosseus tendons and partial resection of the transverse metacarpal ligament gave prompt relief in every instance.
