Traumatic Hip Dislocations in Children

JOSEPH SCHLONSKY M.D.1 and PAUL R. MILLER M.D.1

1 From the Columbus Children's Hospital, Columbus

Seventeen cases of traumatic dislocation of the hip in children fifteen years old or younger were collected from medical records from 1950 to 1970. All dislocations were posterior and most involved the left hip. In general, the severity of injury was related to the age of the patient. Closed reduction was satisfactory in sixteen of the seventeen patients. Complications occurred in two patients. No case of avascular necrosis was seen.
