Central Dislocation Arthroplasty of the Hip
A FOLLOW-UP STUDY
HANES H. BRINDLEY M.D.1
1 Scott and White Clinic, Temple, Texas 76501
A modification of Charnley's central-dislocation technique was used for treating fourteen patients with monarticular hip disease during a six-year period from 1956 to 1962. The average follow-up period was 8.9 years, ranging from fifteen months to fourteen years. Although the relief of pain was acceptable, significant shortening of the extremity, the resulting awkward gait, and the unpredictability of retaining motion have made other procedures seem preferable.
