During the past three years the authors have used, in conjunction with indexray amputation, a tendon transfer of a flexor tendon of the index finger to the proximal phalanx of the long finger. A total of ten patients have undergone index-ray amputations combined with this transfer. In all but one patient the hand with the ray amputation maintained or increased strength in pulp-to-pulp or pulp-to-side pinch postoperatively. We continue to use this procedure and feel that it is a worth-while reconstructive procedure.
