The Management of Fresh Ruptures of the Tendo Achillis

HAMISH GILLIES F.R.C.S.1 and JOHN CHALMERS F.R.C.S.1

1 From the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh

1. A review of the literature is presented showing the significant complications of surgical repair of the tendo achillis.

2. The results from the conservative and surgical management are compared.

3. It is suggested that the conservative management of fresh ruptures and old unhealed ruptures offers advantages over surgical intervention.
