Pollex Abductus Due to Congenital Malposition of the Flexor Pollicis Longus
JACK W. TUPPER M.D.1
1 2844 Summit Street, Oakland, California 94609
Four patients are described with a congenital anomaly of the thumb consisting in abnormal insertion and course of the flexor pollicis brevis tendon. All were seen with pollex abductus and had limitation of flexion and extension of the thumb. All were benefited by surgery which consisted of several different procedures. In two young children an attempt was made to establish a normal course and insertion for the tendon, and this is the procedure recommended in early cases.
