Conservative Treatment of Fractures of the Femur

RANDOLPH L. ANDERSON M.D.1

1 1208 Kanawha Boulevard, East Charleston, West Virginia 25301

A study of the results in thirty-nine fractures of the femur in thirty-nine children under sixteen years of age and fifty-nine fractures in fifty-six adults was made. These patients were all treated conservatively and, for the most part, by Russell's traction. Particular attention was paid to the final length and alignment of the femur, joint motion, hospital stay, and removal of all aids in ambulation such as braces and crutches.
