Congenital Absence of Lumbar Articular Facets

A REPORT OF THREE CASES

Three cases of congenital unilateral absence of the articular processes of the lumbosacral joint have been described. All three patients had lumbar pain precipitated by

trauma and the result of a ruptured disc at another level in one of them. A brief review of the embryology and pertinent literature concerning this rare anomaly is presented.
