Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis in Renal Rickets
REPORT OF THREE CASES
DARRYL SHEA M.D.1 and
HENRY J. MANKIN M.D.1
1 From the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh
Three patients are presented with chronic renal failure and slipped capital femoral epiphysis bilaterally. A thorough search of the literature suggests that this is a rare complication, and the possible explanations for its occurrence are discussed. The patients were considered to be too poor risks for surgical treatment and were treated conservatively. Progressive epiphyseal displacement or disability did not occur suggesting that this may be the treatment of choice.
