Avian Osteopetrotic Bone

A CORRELATION OF ITS CHEMICAL COMPOSITION WITH ITS ROENTGENOGRAPHIC AND HISTOLOGICAL APPEARANCE

The chemical composition of avian osteopetrotic bone correlated with the roentgenographic and histological appearance suggests that osteopetrosis is an instance of hyperostosis rather than hypermineralization. The avian disease is characterized by proliferative growth of immature bone that fails to become fully mineralized even after the proliferation of new bone subsides and a new phase of osteogenesis becomes evident.
