Anterior Approaches in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Infections of the Vertebral Bodies

1. Clinical material and indications for operation are described briefly.

2. A detailed account is given of the surgical approaches used in the treatment of active and partly healed infectious lesions and of paraplegia of early onset.

3. The approaches used in the treatment of late-onset paraplegia are described in detail.

4. The merits of the operative approaches and bone-grafting techniques advocated in this paper are discussed.
