Management of Long-Bone Fractures in Paraplegic Patients
SIDNEY N. EICHENHOLTZ M.D.1
1 From the Veterans Administration Hospital, Bronx
A study of thirty-two fractures of long bones in paraplegic patients suggests that these fractures are unique in that the conventional and accepted methods of treatment are not applicable. In this unselected series, a high proportion of disastrous complications resulted from procedures which would be quite acceptable in otherwise normal patients. Best results were obtained by the use of padded plaster shells, removed regularly for meticulous skin care.
