We have reviewed the results of 105 operations for tuberculous spondylitis in which anterior débridement was combined with posterior fusion. The results of this procedure in terms of cure of abscesses, restoration of a stable spinal column, cure of paralysis, and rehabilitation were highly successful. There were few surgical complications and one death. The technique for the combined operation is described; the indications for this procedure as compared with those for posterior spine fusion alone are discussed. The value of anterior spine fusion is also reviewed.
