Paralysis of the Serratus Anterior Due to Electric Shock Relieved by Transplantation of the Pectoralis Major Muscle

A CASE REPORT

LEONARD MARMOR M.D.1 and CHARLES O. BECHTOL M.D.1

1 From the Department of Surgery and Orthopedics, University of California Medical Center, Los Angeles

An unusual case of isolated serratus anterior paralysis is presented. The various muscle transplants for improvement of this syndrome are reviewed and a detailed illustrated discussion of a technique for the transplantation of the costosternal portion of the pectoralis major muscle is described. This transplant is the procedure of choice in an isolated serratus anterior paralysis.
