The Treatment of Irradiation Fracture of the Femoral Neck

The treatment of forty patients with fifty-six post-irradiation fractures of the femoral neck is presented. Because of the difficulty in predicting the outcome of non-surgical therapy, some form of internal fixation or reconstructive procedure

is recommended in all patients when the fracture is diagnosed. The fixation should be performed in situ if feasible. If reduction is attempted, additional fixation with a bone graft is recommended. Osteotomy is not applicable for primary treatment of this type of fracture.
