The Versatile Cross-Finger Pedicle Flap

A Report of Twenty-six Cases

Twenty-six consecutive cases in which cross-finger pedicle flaps were used to provide soft-tissue covering in primary and secondary reconstruction of the fingers and thumb are presented to re-emphasize the usefulness of the procedure in appropriate situations. The surgical technique is discussed and representative cases are illustrated. The many advantages and few minor disadvantages of this procedure are indicated by the results, which were good to excellent in twenty-two patients, fair in three patients, and poor in one patient. The procedure is being used with increasing frequency and regular success when coverage of soft-tissue defects on the digits of the hand by a pedicle flap is deemed desirable.
