Supervoltage Radiation for Sarcomata of the Pelvis and Lower Extremities

A Preliminary Report

G. EDMUND HAGGART M.D.1, DAVID O. JOHNSTON M.D.1, and FRANCIS CREEDEN M.D.1

1 Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Radiology, The Lahey Clinic, Boston

Although this is a preliminary report and some of the patients have not been observed over a sufficiently long period of time for the results to be considered conclusive, the use of supervoltage radiation treatment in primary malignant tumors of the bones of the pelvis and lower extremities consistently gave palliative relief and in some instances a long-term survival without evidence of recurrence.
