Variations in Normal Bone-Marrow Pressures

1. In the same bone, and under similar physiological conditions, the mean systolic marrow pressure in the diaphysis is significantly higher than the mean systolic marrow pressure in the epiphysis.
2. In the same bone, and under similar physiological conditions, the pulse pressure the diaphysis is significantly greater than the pulse pressure in the epiphysis.
3. There is a rhythmical fluctuation in the marrow pressure in the diaphysis and epiphysis which is synchronous with the phases of respiration. The fluctuations are most pronounced during forceful expiration.
