Chronic synovitis of sporotrichal origin involving an isolated joint is a rare condition according to medical literature. In the case reported, the patient had no skin manifestations and the condition was not part of a widely distributed systemic type of infection. The primary focus of infection was not affected by medical treatment and the drug that was used, stilbamidine, was found not only to lack therapeutic action but to have a toxic effect on the patient. The value of the old principle of absolute rest combined with arthrodesis of the involved joint and excision of localized chronic gransulomata was demonstrated in this case.
