CONSERVATIVE APPROACH IN THE TREATMENT OF FRACTURES OF THE CALCANEUS

Leonard Barnard M.D.1 and John K. Odegard M.D.1

1 Oakland, California

A method for the conservative treatment of fractures of the calcaneus has been used in a series of cases. The number of patients is small, but each has had an adequate followup, and these patients are a representative group. The results so far are encouraging.

While we do not feel that subtalar arthrodesis should be completely abandoned, we believe that it will rarely be required.
