THE SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF RESIDUAL DEFORMITIES OF THE SHOULDER FOLLOWING BIRTH INJURIES OF THE BRACHIAL PLEXUS
Jack Wickstrom M.D.1,
Edward T. Haslam M.D.1, and
Robert H. Hutchinson M.D.1
1 Division of Orthopaedics, School of Medicine, Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana
Dr. Wickstrom, Dr. Haslam, and Dr. Hutchinson have requested that correction be made of an error in their article "The Surgical Management of Residual Deformities of the Shoulder Following Birth Injuries of the Brachial Plexus" as it appeared in the January 1955 issue of The Journal.
On page 34, paragraph 2, the sentence beginning on line two should be changed to: "Open reduction of the dislocation, with release of the subscapularis, as described by Fairbank, was performed, but the operation was modified by completely releasing the pectoralis major instead of nicking or notching the upper margin of this tendon (done to facilitate the localization of the long head of the biceps before dividing completely the subscapularis tendon) and by transfixing the humeral head . . . after operation (Fig. 7)". The legend for Figure 7, page 33, should read: "Schematic drawing of modification of Fairbank's opens reduction . . after four weeks".
