A review of the literature indicates that osteitis pubis is considered by the majority of authors to be an inflammatory disease of bacterial origin which occurs most commonly following retropubic surgery in males.
It is believed that heretofore this disease occurring in young adults of both sexes following trauma to the symphysis pubis may have been overlooked in reporting of cases.
The specific pathological picture of traumatic osteitis pubis has been suggested by virtue of microscopic examination of tissue removed from the patient discussed.
