Forty-one hips with Legg-Perthes disease have been studied clinically and roentgenographically after an average follow-up period of 7.4 years. All were treated uniformly by traction until there was a turning point toward regeneration, and after that with a non-weight-bearing traction brace until regeneration was well advanced. In determining the roentgenographic end-result rating of these cases, an objective method of estimation and recording was used, in which various components of the deformity were reduced to a measurable basis. The authors do not necessarily advocate the method of treatment employed in this series, but have attempted to show as accurately as possible what may be expected when this method of treatment is used. It is hoped that accurate comparison of different methods of treatment will be made by objective techniques of evaluation.
