LEGG-PERTHES DISEASE

A Method of Conservative Treatment

MAURICE M. PIKE M.D.1

1 HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT

1. Prolonged avoidance of weight-bearing offers the best opportunity for near-normal restoration of the bone structure of the hip in Legg-Perthes disease.

2. Enforced recumbency is the best method of ensuring this result.

3. This treatment may best be carried out in an institution, where schooling, physical therapy, and medical care are constantly available.
