Congenital dislocation of the hip is, then, a slowly developing deformity, secondary to anteversion of the head and neck and a resultant secondary hypoplasia of the acetabulum, which are primarily produced by an embryonic interference in the maintenance of the reciprocal relationship of the head of the femur to the socket during the rotation of the limb buds, which is intrinsically characteristic of the human species.
