COMPLETE MEDIAL DISLOCATION OF THE KNEE JOINT WITH DIVISION OF THE COMMON PERONEAL NERVE

JOHN A. FERGUSON M.D.1 and LYMAN ALLEN M.D.1

1 The Departments of Surgery and Pathology of the Medical College of the University of Vermont

In the case of complete medial dislocation of the knee joint which has been reported, the unusual feature was the complete severance of the common peroneal nerve. The extremely low division of the great sciatic nerve appeared to be indirectly responsible in this case for the severe nerve injury. This injury through trophic disturbances may have influenced the formation of the thrombus in the posterior tibial artery.
