ACUTE OSTEOMYELITIS OF A VERTEBRAL BODY FOLLOWING COMPRESSION FRACTURE
RODNEY F. ATSATT M.D.1
1 The Santa Barbara Clinic
This is the first case to be reported of an acute osteomyelitis developing at the site of a recent compression fracture.
The hematogenous infection was caused by a streptococcus, possibly metastatic from a gingivitis.
The treatment was conservative with sulfanilamide medication, which was apparently successful until an overwhelming acute pyelonephritis deranged the patient's resistance and brought about a fatal termination.
