DISCOID EXTERNAL SEMILUNAR CARTILAGE

A Cause of Internal Derangement of the Knee Joint

JEROME G. FINDER M.D.1

1 The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, State University of Iowa

1. Complete discoid external fibrocartilage of the knee joint is a rare congenital anomaly.

2. The condition is of clinical importance because it may produce symptoms which must be differentiated from other internal derangements of the knee joint.

3. Three cases are presented, with a consideration of the anatomical development, the diagnosis, and the surgical treatment of the anomaly.
