SKELETAL IMMOBILIZATION IN DIFFICULT FRACTURES OF THE SHAFTS OF THE LONG BONES

A New Method of Treatment as Applied to Compound Comminuted and Oblique Fractures of Both Bones of the Leg

In the past year, twelve cases of severe fracture of the tibia and fibula have been treated by this method. The results to date not only justify the continuance of this routine but, in terms of hospital stay, anatomical and functional results, temporary and permanent disability, and comfort to the patient, compare favorably with those expected in simple fractures of these bones. Twelve cases warrant neither a formal article nor an end-result study; these we will reserve until after a larger experience.
