SO CALLED RENAL RICKETS: REPORT OF A CASE
HOWARD A. SWART M.D.1
1 Fellow in Orthopaedic Surgery, The Mayo Foundation
A case is described in which marked bony deformity, of the type of osteomalacia, is associated with definite renal insufficiency in a boy of eighteen years.
An attempt is made to show the comparative rarity of the condition by consideration of all the known reported cases.
Differential diagnosis of so called renal rickets, from hyperparathyroidism, late rickets, juvenile Paget's disease, and early osteomalacia is considered.
A question of etiology is still left open although a theory of causation is advanced.
